My name is Felix Caballero and I am an award wining visual artist. Born and raised in The Bronx I was heavily influenced by Hip-Hop culture and I believe it manifests itself through my art. As a child my inspiration for art grew as I walked the streets of the Bronx on my way to school. The walls were filled with bright colors and abstract designs which created amazing murals of decorative signatures. Where some saw defacement and vandalism, I saw freedom of expression and art at it’s finest.
I obtained my degree in Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In my Art History classes I was always fascinated by the renaissance painters of the 13th to14th century. There were some great people celebrated in these paintings but I quickly realized none of the people in the paintings looked like me. Unable to see a reflection of myself as man of color, I wanted to normalize people of color in masterpiece paintings through my own art. Changing the perception of who people view as artists and what people view as art.
Whether I am using oil paint, watercolor, or a digital software my art is used as a means of exploring human emotion and projecting my own personal experiences.
